We had attended church at NewSpring the night before, and our plan was to get up early and head over to Jon & Kelly Miller's house for an early lunch and some play time for the kids. Well, we had a long night with Chloe the night before, so we didn't even wake up until 11am. That put us behind a bit, and Kelly was kind enough to push lunch back until 2:30.
Since we had a little bit of time, we opted to go ahead and do a super quick egg hunt with Chloe before we left. We filled 12 plastic eggs with stickers, jelly beans, gummy bears, and dried mango and hid them in the back yard. When we went out, at first she didn't know what to think and was VERY hesitant to touch anything. Soon, Jeff was able to show her the treats in one egg and convince her to look for more. There was no turning back at that point. She would scream "Eggs!!!" as she ran full-speed ahead to gather up her next treasure.
After the egg hunt, we went over to Jon & Kelly's where we were to have a picnic style potluck. They grilled hot dogs and had some yummy sides to go with. We took homemade salsa, hummus (a special recipe that Jeff made up since Jon is allergic to sesame), and the hit of the party was Jeff's homemade vegan banana lime cheesecake. To say it was amazing would be a HUGE understatement!
When we got there, Chloe was very shy at first. She stayed close to mommy & daddy, but she soon ventured over to the play area where all the toys were. After we'd been there an hour or so, she completely loosened up and made herself at home. It was a beautiful day, so the Millers left their sliding glass backdoor open leading to their deck. The deck was gated and contained a huge plastic playhouse. The girls (Chloe, along with Jon & Kelly's daughters Holly & Monet, and Kelly's niece Theresa) couldn't get enough. Chloe LOVED hanging with the big girls and the freedom of going in and out. It was truly PERFECT!
The Millers' oldest daughter, Jasmine, is amazing with the kids. She played SO well with them. I can't even count the number of times I heard "Ring Around The Rosies... we all fall DOWN!"
While we'd intended to only spend a few hours there, we ended up not leaving until after 7!! Jeff had gone with Jon to help him load up a sofa, so Chloe & I hung out there until they returned. Even at that point, Chloe wasn't ready to leave, but it was definitely time to start winding things down as she hadn't had a nap at all.
When we got home, we finally let her have her Easter basket full of goodies that Jeff picked out (thanks to the dollar spot at Target!). We hadn't wanted to distract her with it that morning before we went to Jon & Kelly's, so it was the perfect end to a beautiful Easter day.
Here is a quick layout that I did with some of my favorite pics from the day -
And Jeff posted this video of the egg-hunting action.
