July 4 & More Randomness

She has started making "jokes" (and I use that term very loosely).
Her favorite joke that we hear numerous times each day follows the same format:
"I called Sissy, and she said she didn't like _________!" That blank can be filled in with whatever we're talking about at the moment... food, an activity, anything. "I called Sissy, and she said she didn't like ice cream!"
And then she laughs and laughs cause she's hilarious.

---------------------------

I seriously love the way Chloe makes up stories. They often start with "When I'm a little baby, I'm supposed to..." which translates to "When I was a little baby, I used to..."

--------------------------

"Mommy, you're not my best friend anymore. Cannon is my best friend now." Chloe, age 3

Cannon is the grandson of her cooking class instructor this summer.  They went through the whole class (which met weekly for an hour through the month of June) without even noticing each other.  But on the final day, after class was over, they were suddenly inseparable.  I wasn't there, but Jeff said they held hands and walked all around the rec center.  #younglove

This was a happy ending to what started out as a potential disaster.  Here's what I wrote on facebook that morning:

Ugh. Mother of the year here. Today was Chloe's very last cooking class, and they got to keep their little aprons the teacher made for them. Guess who overslept!? I swear I set the alarm, but it didn't go off. I have no idea what happened, but I'm absolutely sick

and then

Ok, I'm happy to report that Jeff has saved the day! He took her up there anyway, and they got there just at the tail end of class where they were eating the food that they'd cooked. Her teacher was sweet enough to let Chloe stay for the next class. It's older kids, but apparently, Chloe is still having the time of her life! WHEW! Daddy to the rescue!!

-------------------------

We didn't do much for the 4th of July this year.  I picked up ribs from Dillons, and I made homemade cole slaw & jello cake.  Chloe was SOOOO excited to help.  She cooks with me all the time, but this is just a fun cake to make!

Jeff & I felt bad that we weren't taking her out to the fireworks downtown, but we knew it would be SO crowded.  As luck would have it, around 10pm, I happened to look outside and noticed that we could see some fireworks.  So, we all went out to the driveway and watched for close to an hour.  It wasn't as big and grand as if we'd gone to a real event, but Chloe was SO very excited.

----------------

Now, we're off to Chloe's Tae Kwondo class at the rec center.  She has a belt test tonight, and we're all anxious to see how she does.  She's done so well in this class that we're considering enrolling her in a real class in the fall!
